Ensemble, Daniel Bechet et Olivier Franc portent régulièrement sur scène la bonne parole de la musique de l’une des plus fabuleuses personnalités que le jazz ait engendrées. Héros surdoué des premiers temps de cette musique, ayant furtivement croisé la route de Duke Ellington, qui voyait en lui « le plus grand soliste et créateur de l’histoire du Jazz », Sydney Bechet a laissé en héritage plus de 200 compositions, dont certaines, ne représentant pas nécessairement la part la plus essentielle de son œuvre, sont devenues de grands tubes populaires comme « Petite Fleur », « Dans les rues d’Antibes » ou « Les Oignons ». Le groupe réuni autour du saxophoniste soprano Olivier Franc – qui a le privilège de jouer sur le saxophone personnel de Sidney Bechet et est aussi par ailleurs un invité régulier de Wynton Marsalis – est composé de spécialistes de ce jazz traditionnel que l’on n’entend presque plus excepté dans les BO des films de Woody Allen : Jean-Baptiste Franc (piano), Gilles Chevaucherie (contrebasse), Benoît de Flamesnil (trombone) et bien-sûr son co-leader Daniel Bechet (batterie).
