L’Éveil du printemps traite des troubles des jeunes gens dans le passage à l’âge adulte.
Omar Porras : J’ai découvert la pièce de Wedekind dans les années quatre-vingt-dix. La force de l’écriture et le contenu de l’histoire m’ont impressionné. Je n’étais pas prêt pour monter cette œuvre, mais elle m’a marqué. Puis, avec l’équipe de comédiens des Fourberies de Scapin, j’ai senti une même fragilité de jeunesse chez des acteurs en situation d’apprentissage dans le monde professionnel. J’ai découvert que cet adulte que nous croyons être ne l’est pas forcément : il y a un enfant perdu en nous qui ne cesse d’inquiéter. Nous avons tous une blessure ou une petite cicatrice qui ne s’est pas fermée. Nous passons par une frontière dangereuse que certains arrivent à éviter, d’autres pas, que d’autres encore traversent tragiquement. L’Éveil du printemps n’évoque pas que les ados mais aussi les enfants que nous sommes, porteurs de problèmes non réglés. La série de jeux de miroirs est fascinante.

La question est donc de faire apparaître l’enfant qui est en chacun…
O. P. : Comment faire jouer cet enfant, ne pas prétendre lui ressembler mais « être » cet enfant ? L’Éveil du printemps suscite le théâtre dans le théâtre. Qui joue l’adulte joue aussi l’enfant, et qui joue l’adulte en étant l’enfant porte un masque. Wedekind dédie la pièce à l’Homme masqué, celui qui vient sauver de la mort le jeune héros Melchior, en lui tendant la main. Cet Homme masqué est un hommage au théâtre. L’art tend la main à l’être humain, comme une alternative, une issue possible à cette jeunesse blessée qui s’interroge, heurtée non par les réponses qu’on lui donne mais par les silences, les tabous, la morale.
L’Éveil du printemps raconte la naissance trouble de l’être humain.
O. P. : L’être découvre comment il fleurit, et ce printemps de questions révèle la violence de la nature qui le bouleverse. La beauté de cet éveil est étouffée par un nuage de mensonges et de morale propre à la nature même de l’homme. Wedekind dénonce cette peur, cette prudence abusive qui veut cacher la nature de l’être, lui proposant plusieurs issues, la plus violente étant le suicide. La voie de Melchior ne se laisse pas entraîner par la mort. Le public jeune capte de manière intuitive ces troubles universels. La morale empêche de voir la violence de la vague de douleurs, suicide, avortement, parents qui battent leur enfant…
Quel a été votre travail de mise en scène ?
O. P. : Le texte de Wedekind est poétique. L’écriture scénique est advenue au cours des répétitions, permettant de déceler des liens secrets entre les scènes. C’est un conte onirique qui n’atteint pas immédiatement la réalité mais passe par des travaux d’improvisations – la solitude, la peur, la pudeur, les bacs à sable, le rêve, le cauchemar, la frustration : la construction d’un terrain de jeux pour la pièce. Les murs de l’école et de la maison ont été cassés, ils laissent un espace ouvert au conte. La pièce ne traite pas de la mélancolie de l’enfance, mais de la cruauté et de la tendresse de la vie, de ses capacités de construction. Le printemps de l’existence est fait de cette matière invisible et brumeuse, comme la musique.
