Théâtre de Saint-Quentin-en-Yvelines / chor. Mark Tompkins
Mark Tompkins, « bête de scène » qui marque le paysage chorégraphique depuis les années 1970, et Mathieu Grenier, jeune artiste résolument touche-à-tout, se sont bien trouvés : ils nous livrent avec Opening night un savoureux hommage au vaudeville. Numéros de song-and-dance tragi-comiques, claquettes, tubes populaires et compositions originales s’unissent en un bouquet multicolore, pour lequel ils convient également sur scène Rodolphe Martin et Jean-Louis Badet. Un « show » à la fois hilarant et mélancolique, en paillettes et costumes. “Il faut que l’on puisse rire de choses graves, poser des questions profondes sans être nécessairement dans le tragique« , rappelle Mark Tompkins : préserver la possibilité de penser avec des genres que la culture « savante » a réduits au simple divertissement est aussi une posture politique, dans laquelle les deux concepteurs du spectacle nous entraînent.
