Le combo festif et bariolé de Dakar court toujours les routes. Le groupe, fondé dans les années 70 par des musiciens issus des différentes ethnies sénégalaises, a connu jusqu’au début des années 80 un succès phénoménal. Dangereusement marginalisé par la fièvre du M’Balax, l’orchestre Baobab a ensuite été sur le point de disparaître complètement du circuit en 1987. Mais c’était sans compter sur la bonne étoile de ce groupe unique en son genre qui allait opérer un spectaculaire retour en force au niveau mondial au début des années 2000 à l’initiative de Nick Gold, le producteur de Buena Vista Social Club. Le mélange de rumba congolaise, de rythmes afro-cubains et de traditions sénégalaises des fringants pépés de Dakar est loin d’avoir tiré ses dernières cartouches !
