Fidèle à une habitude chère à son directeur musical Laurent Petitgirard, l’Orchestre ouvre chacun de ses concerts avec une œuvre contemporaine. La Valse de marbre (1996) de Philippe Chamouard est un hommage à Vienne au tournant des xixe et xxe siècle, autour d’une valse interrompue qui tente, selon le compositeur de « renaître de ses cendres ». Elle précède ici deux grandes œuvres du romantisme : le Concerto pour piano de Grieg avec Bruno Rigutto en soliste et la Symphonie « Réformation » de Mendelssohn. Au pupitre, l’orchestre accueille Martin Lebel, né en 1964. L’actuel chef des orchestres de la RATP a notamment travaillé auprès de James Conlon à Cologne et à l’Opéra de Paris. Il fut en 2003 le lauréat du concours de direction Serge Prokofiev à Saint-Pétersbourg.
