VOIX ET ORCHESTRE / THÉÂTRE DES CHAMPS-ÉLYSEES
Après un premier opéra consacré à Joseph Merrick, dit Elephant Man, Laurent Petitgirard a composé avec Guru une sorte de conte cruel lyrique qui plonge au cœur de la folie sectaire d’un homme et de ses disciples. La construction dramatique de l’œuvre tient pour beaucoup à l’opposition du chant omniprésent (Guru, son entourage, le chœur des adeptes) et de la voix parlée – celle du seul personnage qui s’opposera aux sinistres desseins de la communauté. La « suite lyrique » que Laurent Petitgirard a tirée de son opéra conserve cet aspect et le compositeur fait ici appel au baryton Hubert Claessens et à la comédienne Sonia Petrovna, qui ont participé à la création discographique de l’ouvrage, ainsi qu’aux chœurs Variatio et Allegri.
