Après avoir envisagé des études de philosophie, Cyril Huvé se lance dans une carrière pianistique sous l’égide du légendaire Claudio Arrau qui voit en lui l’un de ses meilleurs continuateurs. Mais Cyril Huvé conservera toujours un goût prononcé pour une approche de la musique par le texte, l’archive et l’étude d’un contexte historique. Quel pouvait être alors le meilleur interprète pour remettre à l’honneur un contemporain et ami de Rachmaninov, méconnu, pourtant virtuose du piano et prolifique compositeur ? Nicolas Medtner compose ainsi son premier concerto pour piano en 1914, dans un esprit de défense de la tonalité et des traditions d’un langage alors en pleine mutation. Il se veut le partisan des grands principes qui ont régi l’art musical depuis sa création contre toute tendance novatrice. Si Medtner est tombé dans l’oubli à sa mort, c’est sans doute dû au manque de traces sonores de son œuvre à l’époque, mais une nouvelle génération d’interprètes s’engage depuis quelque temps dans la redécouverte de son répertoire ignoré, comme en témoignent les enregistrements de Geoffrey Tozer, Marc-André Hamelin, Boris Berezovsky et Evgeny Kissin. Huvé, curieux et découvreur, apporte lui aussi sa pierre à l’édifice.
