Depuis vingt ans, l’Orchestre de Massy occupe une place singulière dans la vie symphonique francilienne, au croisement de la diffusion, de la sensibilisation et de la formation professionnelle. Animé depuis ses débuts par Dominique Rouits, l’orchestre est amené à se confronter à tous les répertoires, aussi bien symphoniques que lyriques, devenant le « cœur battant » de l’Opéra de Massy. Il y a quelques années, le slogan de l’orchestre était « la meilleure qualité au plus grand nombre ». Ce week-end d’ouverture de la saison du vingtième anniversaire est symbolique des principes fondateurs de l’orchestre. Donné deux fois (les 16 et 17 octobre à 20h à l’Opéra), le programme célèbre la musique française, mettant à l’honneur au passage les solistes de l’orchestre : le Poème pour violon de Chausson (avec Guillaume Plays), la Rhapsodie pour clarinette et orchestre (avec Marie-Cécile Courcier) et Fêtes de Debussy, la Symphonie fantastique de Berlioz et une création de Bruno Gousset, Éclats de fête. Il est précédé de répétitions publiques ouvertes au public scolaire et de concerts itinérants en différents lieux de la ville.
