Marco Stroppa, né en 1959, fait avec ces Ritratti senza volto
(Portraits sans visage) son retour à l’orchestre après une dizaine d’années
consacrées principalement à l’écriture pour ch?ur, à la musique de chambre et à
la poursuite de son vaste cycle de pièces pour piano Miniature estrose.
Dans ces trois « tableaux pour orchestre » composés pour l’Orchestre de Paris,
Marco Stroppa dit avoir « expérimenté des solutions sonores [qu’il n?avait]
jamais tentées auparavant, en travaillant des aspects quelque peu
extrêmes de l’orchestre ». Le compositeur, dont la richesse de l’invention
musicale s’était illustrée au cours des vingt dernières années par un usage très
personnel de l’informatique musicale, a d’ailleurs prévu de prolonger ce travail
dans les prochaines années avec d’autres partitions orchestrales. Le reste du
programme est plus traditionnel : Concerto pour piano n° 22 de Mozart
(avec David Fray) et Symphonie « Le Printemps » de Schumann.
