PIANO ET ORCHESTRE SYMPHONIQUE / SALLE PLEYEL
À peine plus d’un demi-siècle sépare les œuvres au programme de ce concert. Le Prélude à l’après-midi d’un faune est une première fenêtre ouverte sur la modernité musicale : Debussy, en 1892, y invente une forme inouïe, qui puisse rivaliser avec les inventions formelles et poétiques de Mallarmé dont il s’inspire. Trente-six ans plus tard, Ravel compose son Boléro pour la danseuse Ida Rubinstein, défi orchestral « vide de musique » selon le mot de l’auteur lui-même. Ces deux fascinants chefs-d’œuvre continuent aujourd’hui d’interroger ce qu’est la musique. Une question que se posent – à laquelle même se raccrochent – les deux compositeurs exilés qui les accompagnent dans ce programme : Stravinsky dans une Symphonie en trois mouvements très formelle, sans affect ; Bartok dans son testament musical, le Troisième Concerto pour piano, où les réminiscences classiques sont comme un regard sur un monde définitivement perdu.
