Enrique Mazzola, jeune et bouillonnant directeur musical de l’Orchestre national d’Île-de-France, a conçu pour son entrée en scène dans la saison parisienne un programme sur lequel plane la figure de Napoléon Bonaparte… D’abord celle héroïque et pleine d’espoir pour l’Europe qui inspire l’admiration de Beethoven, qui compose son Concerto pour piano n° 5 « L’Empereur » en son hommage, avant de lui inspirer, quelques années plus tard, en 1809, la consternation lorsque le même Napoléon s’apprête à envahir Vienne où il réside… En conclusion du même programme, après l’interprétation de la suite d’orchestre de Hary Janos, op.15 de Kodály, Mazzola évoquera à travers l’Ouverture 1812 de Tchaikovski une autre image de Napoléon, celle d’un héros défaillant dont les troupes enlisées dans la campagne de Russie vont bientôt capituler… d’où une citation ironique de La Marseillaise. Avec la participation de l’historien Patrice Gueniffey et de Cédric Tiberghien, soliste parfait du plus célèbre des concertos beethovéniens.
