Spécialiste des musiques baroques et classiques, ce munichois de 45 ans est l’invité régulier de nombreuses maisons d’opéra allemandes, du Bayerische Staatsoper de Münich au Staatsoper de Berlin, mais aussi du Theater an der Wien ou de l’English National Opera de Londres. Michael Hofstetter fut aussi directeur musical de 2006 à 2012 de l’Orchestre de Chambre de Stuttgart. Les orchestres français manquaient un peu à ce joli palmarès. Un oubli aujourd’hui réparé grâce à l’ONDIF qui nous invite à découvrir ce chef spécialiste des répertoires des XVIIème et XVIIIème siècles, qu’il aborde alternativement sur instruments modernes ou d’époque. Dans l’écrin de la salle de la rue de La Boétie, Michael Hofstetter dirige l’ultime symphonie de Mozart (1788), la n°41 dite « Jupiter », précédée de l’ouverture de La Clémence de Titus et du Concerto pour piano n°17 en sol majeur servi par le québécois Marc-André Hamelin, virtuose un peu surnaturel, adepte des grandes pages romantiques, que l’on a rarement l’occasion d’écouter dans Mozart.
