LA SEINE MUSICALE / ORCHESTRE SYMPHONIQUE
Sous le titre « New World », Enrique Mazzola a construit son programme américain autour de deux symphonies majeures, la dernière (et neuvième) du tchèque Anton Dvorák, arrivé en star à New York en 1892 (où il deviendra directeur du conservatoire de la ville), et la Dr Atomic Symphony de John Adams. Si la première fait partie des chevaux de bataille du répertoire symphonique, la seconde est évidemment beaucoup moins défendue en concert. L’œuvre est tirée de la matière orchestrale de l’opéra Dr Atomic. Un ouvrage créé en 2005 à San Francisco, dans une mise en scène de Peter Sellars, qui évoque le physicien américain Robert Oppenheimer, père de la bombe atomique. La symphonie reflète les tourments du grand scientifique partagé entre l’exaltation de ses recherches et découvertes et l’angoisse sur ses usages futurs. La sinistre actualité coréenne devrait offrir à l’interprétation de cette symphonie atomique un relief tout particulier. Au même programme, en ouverture de concert, une courte pièce pour quatre percussions intitulée Uto du jeune compositeur Dai Fujikura, accueilli cette saison en résidence à l’ONDIF.
