Myung-Whun Chung poursuit son exploration du répertoire français autour de Ravel et Debussy, deux compositeurs qui avaient beaucoup mobilisé l’an dernier déjà l’Orchestre philharmonique de Radio France. Les chefs-d’œuvre sont de sortie avec La Valse du premier, le Prélude à l’après-midi d’un faune et La Mer du second. La cantate La Demoiselle élue est en revanche bien moins souvent donnée au concert. Cette œuvre de jeunesse, que Debussy composa pour le concert des lauréats du Prix de Rome – et que le Conservatoire refusa d’inscrire au programme – recèle autant d’audace harmonique et d’académisme désuet, bien aidé par le symbolisme appuyé du poème de Dante-Gabriele Rossetti. Si le chant n’est pas l’élément le plus novateur de l’œuvre, la partie de soprano offre cependant des lignes d’une pureté magnifique, qui devraient convenir à merveille à Natalie Dessay.
