Pour sa septième édition, le festival « Jazz in Japan » proposé par la Maison de la Culture du Japon à Paris change de rythme. Un seul groupe est à l’affiche (mais quel groupe !) pour deux concerts exceptionnels. L’Orchestre Shibusa Shirazu compte probablement parmi les projets musicaux « made in Japan » les plus créatifs, inclassables et spectaculaires. Son leader, le bassiste Fuwa Daisuke est issu du mouvement free mais est aussi féru de musique classique, passionné par l’univers des fanfares et amoureux des BO des films de James Bond ! Son orchestre réunit une trentaine d’artistes d’horizons divers et variés – jazzmen bien sûr, mais aussi ex-punk, danseurs de butô ou gogo dancers – et délivre sur scène une véritable performance visuelle et musicale. Le jazz y côtoie rock, house, funk, pop et chansons traditionnelles et la mise en scène convoque aussi bien la culture traditionnelle japonaise que la vidéo et le multimédia. Au Japon, leur public dépasse de loin le monde du jazz. Ils sont par exemple depuis 4 ans les invités réguliers du très réputé Fuji Rock Festival où ils cassent la baraque. Coup de foudre prévisible.
