Parmi les quinze symphonies de Chostakovitch, la Neuvième n’est ni la plus connue ni la mieux estimée. Faisant suite aux fresques tragiques des « symphonies de guerre » (la Septième, dite « Léningrad », et la Huitième), cette Neuvième (1945) espérée par le régime stalinien comme un hymne à la victoire, est une œuvre pleine d’esprit, ironique et parodique, pas du tout monumentale. Le chef Mariss Jansons, formé auprès de Evguéni Mravinski, soit au plus près de la grande tradition d’interprétation de l’œuvre de Chostakovitch, avoue un faible pour cette symphonie où l’humour musical souffle au plus haut point. Il dirige ensuite la Quatrième Symphonie, ode symphonique lumineuse de Mahler, avec Miah Persson en soliste.
