On connaît depuis des lustres le registre de l’organ trio et les ressources inépuisables de groove et de son de cette formule magique associant le moelleux de l’Orgue Hammond, le brillant de la guitare et la puissance de la batterie. La formule a fait bien des étincelles, des groupes de Jimmy Smith au Tony Williams Lifetime (avec John McLaughlin et Larry Young). Depuis sept ans, l’Organic Trio semble pourtant s’être fixé comme projet de repousser les lois du genre. Il y parvient autant par la qualité de ses compositions, qui savent autant ouvrir des espaces inattendus autant que s’inscrire dans la tradition, ainsi que par le brio de son line-up : le guitariste américain Brian Seeger, originaire de La Nouvelle Orléans et familier de la formule depuis ses collaborations avec Dr. Lonnie Smith ou Big John Patton, l’organiste français Jean-Yves Jung (bien connu comme pilier de l’Electric Quartet de Bireli Lagrene), et le batteur luxembourgeois Paul Wiltgen, remarqué aussi au sein du trio Reis-Demuth-Wiltgen ou dans le sillage de musiciens de la stature de Kurt Rosenwinkel ou Joshua Redman. L’album « Saturn’s Spell » de l’Organic Trio (qui vient de sortir chez Jazz Family / Socadisc) est une superbe réussite qui ne demande qu’à reprendre vie et âme sur scène, comme prochainement sur la scène du Duc des Lombards.
