Tous les fans de baroque s’en souviennent : en 2004, le label Naïve sortait un enregistrement de l’Orlando furioso de Vivaldi sous la direction de Jean-Christophe Spinosi. Des critiques unanimes saluaient alors l’énergie du chef et de son ensemble Matheus mais aussi la qualité de la distribution vocale (où l’on retrouve notamment Marie-Nicole Lemieux, Philippe Jaroussky, Jennifer Larmore…). Six ans plus tard, les mêmes interprètes, à quelques exceptions près, se lancent dans une production scénique de cet opéra de Vivaldi. La mise en scène a été confiée à Pierre Audi, que l’on connaît pour ses relectures modernes et souvent pertinentes des grands opéras du répertoire. Le défi est de taille : comment mettre en scène cette succession d’aria servant avant tout à faire briller la virtuosité et le cantabile des chanteurs ? D’un point de vue musical, on est impatient de voir comment les voix, et le chef d’orchestre, ont évolué (mûri ?) depuis la sortie du disque.
