Sobre et poignante, la chorégraphie de Pina Bausch convient parfaitement à la musique de Gluck. La reprise au Palais Garnier d’Orphée et Eurydice rappelle combien les thèmes mythologiques de l’opéra se retrouvent dans la dialectique intemporelle de la directrice de la compagnie de Wuppertal. L’expérience est d’autant plus intéressante que Pina Bausch travaille ici avec le ballet de l’Opéra de Paris et non avec ses propres danseurs. L’autre atout de cette production réside dans la présence en fosse du Balthasar Neuman Ensemble, enthousiaste formation allemande sur instruments anciens conduite par Thomas Hengelbrock. Ce chef n’a pas son pareil pour transmettre aux instrumentistes le sens de la vocalité, offrant ainsi le plus beau des écrins aux solistes de la distribution (dont se dégage la passionnante, même si parfois inégale, mezzo-soprano Maria Riccarda Wesserling).
