D’un regard impatient volé par amour au destin, Orphée trahit son serment et soudain précipite son Eurydice dans les ténèbres effrayantes du royaume des morts qui l’engloutissent à jamais… Du mythe hérité de Virgile, mêlé à la sobre musique de Gluck écrite en 1762, Pina Bausch exhale la passion déchirante des amants désunis, le désespoir du deuil qui glace la vie jusqu’en ses plus frêles désirs. Créé à Wuppertal en 1975 et entré au répertoire du Ballet de l’Opéra en 2005, cet opéra dansé entrelace la douceur et la souffrance, l’émotion pure et la fragilité de la condition humaine en un dénouement tragique. Corps douloureux des pleureuses emportés dans l’élan funèbre du chagrin, violence des Furies, gestes libres des âmes du jardin des bienheureux, silhouettes éperdues d’Orphée et d’Eurydice qui errent en solitaires en proie à la quête éperdue de l’autre… déclinent les thèmes fondamentaux de l’œuvre de la chorégraphe allemande disparue en 2010 et, par-delà le pessimisme, disent la foi en la force de l’amour.
