Autoproclamé « plus petit big band du monde » ou « trio le plus peuplé de la planète », Orphéon Célesta assure à six mains, trois voix et une quinzaine d’instruments un show où jazz, music-hall et comédie s’entrelacent avec une adorable bonhommie et un talent artistique crevant la scène. « Dans le monde du jazz qui nous inspire, « l’entertainment » faisait partie du show musical. ». Les références du trio sont volontairement datées : la musique noire des années 20 et 30, le jazz des origines, le spiritual, le ragtime, l’imagerie américaine, et une touche de cabaret aux allures désuètes et badines.
Des origines du jazz américain, brocardées avec une dérision délectable
Leur spectacle est certes drôle, pétri d’humour verbal, de sketchs et de comique visuel qui le rendent accessible à un public non averti, mais il est surtout musical. Car Hussenot, Perrin et Ponard sont avant tout des musiciens accomplis, de l’espèce de ceux qui peuvent tout se permettre, de l’impro au concerto, avec une précision et une justesse parfaites. Digressant sur tous les thèmes, muni de quelques accessoires et de beaucoup de ressources, avec une espièglerie toute en modestie et en clins d’œil, Orphéon Célesta est le chantre d’un folklore jazzophile aussi influencé par Armstrong et Cole Porter que par Tex Avery.
