Pour nous livrer sa propre vision de L’Odyssée, Strasnoy a collaboré avec l’écrivain argentin Alberto Mangel, auteur du livret, pour qui le personnage d’Ulysse incarne la figure du « réfugié, de l’exilé politique, du nomade involontaire ». Le voyage d’Ulysse vers sa terre s’apparente alors à la traversée d’un labyrinthe de cultures et d’identités, comme en témoigne dans sa structure même l’oeuvre musicale, spatialisée sous la voûte de verre et de métal de Baltard, incarnée par six chœurs, chacun composé d’une quarantaine de chanteurs représentant les peuples croisés par Ulysse, tous porteurs des harmonies d’une langue particulière (latin, espagnole, italienne, allemande, anglaise)… Aux commandes de ces 240 chanteurs issus des chœurs amateurs de la région Ile-de-France, Roland Hayrabedian dirige aussi son ensemble vocal Musicatreize, l’Ensemble Proxima Centauri et L’Ensemble Itinéraire.
