Après avoir emmené l’Orchestre national de Lille dans une intégrale des Symphonies de Mahler en 2019, Alexandre Bloch referme son mandat avec un cycle Sibelius. Créée à Helsinki en 1902, la Symphonie n°2 en ré majeur op.43 affirme une inspiration au carrefour du pathétisme romantique et d’une originalité expressive que le compositeur décantera au fil de ses opus ultérieurs. La tonalité héroïque des premier et dernier mouvements lui a donné la puissance d’un hymne national qui fut d’emblée un succès populaire, alors que le pays était sous domination russe. Commande de William Pimrose, le Concerto pour alto est la dernière œuvre écrite par Bartok, et laissée inachevée à sa mort – une première version a été complétée par Tibor Serly, avant une seconde, plus conforme aux intentions du manuscrit, par le fils du compositeur, Peter Bartok. Amihai Grosz défend une partition qu’il vient d’enregistrer avec Alexandre Bloch et l’Orchestre national de Lille, dans un disque qui paraît en octobre sous le label Alpha Classics, où figure également le Concerto pour orchestre.
