Quelques pièces pour orgue jalonnent discrètement l’œuvre d’Édith Canat de Chizy, depuis Véga en 1999. Mais, au-delà, c’est toute sa musique qui, par sa façon de sculpter l’espace et le temps, par sa quête des registres les plus expressifs et par le miroitement constant des timbres, semble vouée à l’instrument. Dans Over the sky, co-commande du Festival Présences Féminines et de Musique sacrée et orgue en Avignon, elle lui substitue l’accordéon — un cousin bien plus mobile, il faut le reconnaître —, choisi pour sa capacité à métamorphoser les timbres et à les projeter vers cet au-delà du son qu’évoque le titre de l’œuvre, écrite à l’intention de Pascal Contet, qui depuis plus de trente a ouvert toutes grandes les portes de la création contemporaine à son instrument.
