NOUVELLE PRODUCTION / OPÉRA BASTILLE (AUDITORIUM)
Owen Wingrave est le deuxième opéra, après Le Tour d’écrou, que Britten a écrit d’après l’œuvre d’Henry James. D’abord écrite pour la télévision en 1971, la pièce s’est peu à peu imposée sur les scènes lyriques – deux productions ont ainsi été montées ces dernières années en France, à l’Opéra du Rhin et à l’Opéra de Lorraine. Owen Wingrave illustre de nouveau dans l’œuvre de Britten le thème de la jeunesse et de l’innocence sacrifiée : le protagoniste est ici rejeté, littéralement livré aux spectres de la tradition familiale, pour avoir refusé d’embrasser la carrière militaire, honneur de la maison depuis dix générations. Requérant un effectif réduit mais d’une densité musicale et dramatique extrême, cette production est portée par les jeunes chanteurs de l’Académie et les musiciens de l’Orchestre-atelier Ostinato dirigés par Stephen Higgins.
