La caustique Liselotte, élevée en liberté dans la religion réformée et l’esprit humaniste du Palatinat, ne parvint jamais tout à fait à s’habituer aux mœurs dépravées et aux intrigues versaillaises que lui imposèrent ses noces avec Philippe d’Orléans. Pourtant, ni la rigueur imbécile de l’étiquette, ni l’humiliante présence des mignons batifolant autour de son mari, ni les piques vipérines de « l’ordure du roi », l’infâme et bigote Maintenon qu’elle exécrait, ne parvinrent à faire plier cette âme sensible et intelligente qui se vengea de la médiocrité de la cour en s’en faisant la mémorialiste assidue, dans une correspondance fournie avec sa famille allemande. Drôles, alertes et colorées, ses lettres constituent un des témoignages les plus précieux sur le siècle de Louis XIV. Confiant à Marie Grudzinski le soin d’incarner cet incroyable personnage de sa prime jeunesse jusqu’à sa mort, Jean-Claude Seguin joue de tous les effets du théâtre pour tâcher d’approcher au mieux l’authenticité et la truculence de cette héroïne du Grand Siècle.
