Le théâtre, chez Wagner, est tout autant dans la musique que dans la mise en scène. Si le public parisien a été plutôt gâté par les productions scéniques des ouvrages du maître de Bayreuth – au moins par leur nombre, sinon par leur inégale qualité – il ne faut pas dédaigner la possibilité qu’offrent les versions de concert de se préoccuper uniquement du chant et de l’orchestre. Après avoir dirigé l’œuvre au Festival de Bayreuth durant les quatre derniers étés, Daniele Gatti livre au public parisien, et en compagnie de l’Orchestre national de France, sa vision de l’œuvre ; il s’appuie largement sur la distribution qu’il dirigeait en Bavière : Christopher Ventris dans le rôle-titre, Detlef Roth en Amfortas, Mihoko Fujimura en Kundry et Kwangchul Youn en Gurnemanz. Quelques jours plus tard, Andris Nelsons, qui dirigera encore Lohengrin à Bayreuth l’été prochain, interprète Tristan et Isolde à la tête de son Orchestre symphonique de Birmingham, avec quelques bons wagnériens à ses côtés : Lioba Braun en Isolde, Torsten Kerl en Tristan et Christianne Stotijn en Brangäne.
