Cette pièce se rattache au ballet classique puisqu’elle fait référence à Giselle, au Lac des Cygnes, à La Bayadère… Pourquoi ce choix ?
Pascale Houbin : Dans mon travail, j’ai toujours aimé partir d’une histoire. Le ballet classique est considéré comme une des premières occasions où le corps va représenter, incarner une histoire, qu’elle soit reliée à la mythologie, à la tragédie, ou aux contes populaires. C’est une mise en forme et en représentation d’une histoire.
Est-on dans la relecture, dans la réinterprétation, dans la déconstruction des grands ballets classiques ?
P. H. : Relecture, non, car la pièce est construite à partir de duos qui font une dizaine de minutes. Ce qui est intéressant c’est la façon dont nous rentrons dedans. Pour Le Lac des Cygnes par exemple, je me suis intéressée à l’unique dans le multiple, car il y a cette idée du corps de ballet et de l’être aimé qui s’en détache. On ne raconte pas chaque ballet, mais il y a une porte d’entrée qui nous est propre. Et avec Emmanuelle Laborit à l’IVT, on a mis sur pied parallèlement quatre soirées pour explorer ce qu’est la danse, le ballet classique, jusqu’à Isadora Duncan qui va faire basculer la danse dans la modernité. C’est une chose qui compte beaucoup pour moi dans ce projet : pouvoir apporter de la culture chorégraphique dans cet endroit qui est nouveau.
Pourquoi, alors que vous êtes dans la transmission d’une culture chorégraphique, avoir bâti le projet avec des artistes venus d’autres milieux ?
P. H. : C’est un fil que je tire de choses que j’ai moi-même traversées : j’ai appris la langue des signes, je pratique depuis trente ans le yoga où je retrouve les mudras, et mes voyages en Inde me les ont fait connaître artistiquement. Tout cela m’attire parce qu’on peut raconter une histoire avec les mains, les yeux, les pieds. D’où la présence d’un comédien sourd et d’une danseuse de kathakali. Et de Roland Schön dans sa façon de raconter des histoires avec les objets… Chacun a eu une expertise différente d’un récit à mettre en place dans le spectacle. Le plus difficile est de trouver cet engrenage qui fait que le kathakali va avancer avec la langue des signes, la langue des signes avec les objets. Ce sont à chaque fois deux matières artistiques qui essayent de traverser une histoire reliée au ballet classique.
