Né à la Rochelle en 1960, Franck Ollu est un chef spécialiste de la musique contemporaine. Sa collaboration de longue date avec l’Ensemble Modern à Berlin et son poste de directeur musical de l’Ensemble Kammarensemblen à Stockholm témoignent de cet engagement esthétique. Son parcours musical le lie particulièrement à deux compositeurs : l’anglais George Benjamin dont il a dirigé la création mondiale de l’opéra « Into the Hill Little » à Bastille en 2006 et Pascal Dusapin dont il a dirigé la première de Passion en juin 2008 au Festival d’Aix-en-Provence. Cette partition foisonnante marquait la sixième réalisation du compositeur français dans le domaine de l’opéra et mettait en scène deux personnages, Elle et Lui, dans une libre relecture du mythe fondateur de l’opéra, Orphée et Eurydice. Deux ans à peine après sa création, l’ouvrage nous revient déjà dans une nouvelle production portée par la vision de la chorégraphe allemande Sasha Waltz qui ne devrait avoir aucun mal à faire oublier la très controversée mise en scène aixoise de Giuseppe Frigen. Pour le reste et par bonheur, l’équipe de la création reste inchangée avec dans la fosse l’Ensemble Modern dirigée par Ollu et sur scène les excellents soprano canadienne Barbara Hannigan et baryton autrichien Georg Nigl. Une rentrée lyrique d’un type nouveau du côté du TCE où l’arrivée de Michel Franck n’aura pas tardé à se faire remarquer.
