Né en 1958, Gérard Pesson voit aujourd’hui la création scénique de son deuxième opéra, trois ans après sa première en concert à Stuttgart et presque dix ans après Forever Valley, sa première réalisation dans le domaine lyrique… S’inspirant du roman-fleuve L’Astrée d’Honoré d’Urfé (1567-1625) que Pesson décrit comme « un immense jeu de rôles où les protagonistes sortent de leur condition pour en épouser une autre qui leur permette de changer, croient-ils, le réel », Pastorale fait le choix audacieux de faire directement référence à l’univers de la télé-réalité et ses huis clos voyeurs et amoureux. « Pour autant que l’opéra soit violemment contemporain et nous parle, par des codes et des conventions, de ce que nous traversons au présent, Pastorale évoque, à travers le vivre ensemble, la peur et la fuite du réel telles que le besoin d’auto-fiction narrative la dit dans les jeux de rôles d’aujourd’hui, les trainings de développement personnel, les jeux vidéos, les expériences de Loft ou d’île de la tentation qui font du désir d’autarcie une sorte de fantasme de réenchantement du monde » explique le compositeur. Pour un tel ouvrage inspiré par le monde de l’image, Jean-Luc Choplin, directeur du Châtelet, a souhaité faire appel pour la mise en scène au vidéaste Pierrick Sorin (déjà co-metteur en scène de La Pietra del paragone en 2006) et au chorégraphe Kamel Ouali (Le Roi soleil ; Cléopâtre, etc…) mais aussi intégrer au casting vocal de jeunes chanteurs issus des émissions Star Academy ou La Nouvelle Star… Un mélange détonnant au sein d’un opéra résolument contemporain ! Avec l’Orchestre symphonique Région Centre-Tours dirigé par Jean-Yves Ossonce.
