L’aventure du Caratini Jazz Ensemble, entamée il y a quinze ans, est sans contestation possible l’une des expériences de grande formation les plus fructueuses, durables et convaincantes dans le domaine du jazz en France. « D’une certaine façon, je pense avoir réussi à installer cet orchestre dans le paysage musical. Il y a eu douze saisons, plus de deux cents concerts, une quinzaine de programmes… » avance avec modestie Caratini. A l’heure où le chef d’orchestre souhaite ralentir le rythme d’activité de son grand format, le Théâtre Claude Debussy de Maisons-Alfort lui offre judicieusement une Carte Blanche ouvrant au leader la possibilité de puiser en liberté dans le riche répertoire de son orchestre. Un bel hommage. Dans le même temps, Caratini souhaite ouvrir une nouveau chapitre de son projet musical en revenant à des petits groupes plus légers placés davantage sous le signe de l’intimité et de l’improvisation. « J’ai recommencé à me tourner vers ces petites formes. Il y a plus d’insouciance, mais pas moins d’exigence. Je pense au trio voix-saxophone-contrebasse avec Hildegarde Wanzlawe et Rémi Sciuto que j’ai commencé à développer et qui me passionne : pas d’harmonie, mais une polyphonie autour de la chanson ». Ce groupe sera à l’affiche au Sunside le 9 avril, avec aussi, le même soir, un autre trio composé de Marc Fosset (guitare) et Manuel Rocheman (piano) et le lendemain le Latinidad Quintet avec le chilien Sebastian Quezada (percussions), jeune maître de la percussion cubaine et des tambours Batas.
