En 2020, sur une suggestion de René Martin, directeur du festival Les Folles Journées de Nantes, le pianiste Paul Lay s’est penché sur les œuvres de Beethoven en solo. Il a été frappé par leurs formes et leurs architectures, dans lesquelles il a ménagé ses propres espaces d’improvisations. Celles-ci lui ont également inspiré des compositions nouvelles, au sein desquelles il a laissé s’exprimer sa perception du maître, qu’il résume ainsi : « du rythme, des mélodies entêtantes, des ruptures, du silence et surtout : du mystère ». Un grand moment de piano en perspective.
