A la dérobée, un peu de biais. C’est ainsi que Peeping Tom scrute le monde. En se glissant par les failles du conscient, dans les plis lâches du quotidien, là où tapage en secret le capharnaüm des fantasmes et des névroses ordinaires. D’ailleurs, Peeping Tom signifie « voyeur » en anglais… Né en 1999 de la rencontre de l’argentine Gabriela Carrizo et du français Franck Chartier sur le plateau d’Alain Platel, ce collectif bruxellois s’immisce volontiers dans le for intérieur de nos infinies turbulences. Dans Le Jardin (2002), premier acte d’une saga familiale drolatique et poignante, il entaille les frontières troubles de la normalité, confrontant l’exotisme frelaté d’un night-club interlope au désarroi d’un couple et d’un vieil homme, tous trois plantés dans l’enclos bien normé d’un sage pavillon de banlieue.

Quelques années plus tard, Le Salon (2004) suit les débâcles de la vieillesse et surprend cette famille en pleine déconfiture. Troisième volet de la trilogie, Le Sous-sol (2007) creuse outre-tombe, dans l’antre terreuse où les morts tournaillent les souvenirs et n’en finissent pas de rejouer les ratés du passé, toute honte bue. Au fil de ces trois épisodes, où danse et théâtre se relaient en une partition implacable, se révèlent les béantes fêlures d’une humanité froissée, coriace et gaillarde à la fois, qui chemine en solitaire parmi les espoirs naufragés et les petits bonheurs. Ainsi va la vie, clopinant cahin-caha sur les cailloux du destin…
