Ma première est une chanteuse élevée dans le fertile sillon du dhrupad, art séculaire qui trouve ses racines dans les hymnes védiques. Venue d’Ahmedabad, Pelva Naik (le 30) est l’une des nouvelles promesses de ce style, rigoureux, pour ne pas dire rigoriste, qui fut marqué par les frères Dagar, dont elle fut une disciple et dont elle a hérité la science du rythme juste, sans emphase. D’apparence plus léger dans la forme, pas moins profond quant au fond, le chant khyal est aussi le fruit d’une lente et longue maturation, d’où ont émergé de grandes voix de l’Inde du Nord. C’est dans cette lignée que s’inscrit mon second, Arshad Ali Khan (le 16), enfant prodige de la gharana de Kirana, qui marie comme peu les passages enlevés et les moments d’accalmie. Mon tout, vous l’aurez compris, représente une belle fenêtre d’exposition de la jeune génération.
