Qui n’a eu, en lisant page après page Vingt mille lieues sous les mers, l’impression de coller l’œil au hublot pour découvrir les merveilles insoupçonnées – et parfois quelque peu terrifiantes – qui se cachent sous les mers jusque dans les abysses ? La prose de Jules Verne a ce pouvoir de susciter l’imaginaire au-delà de ce que les mots peuvent décrire. La musique l’a aussi. Gérard Lecointe, directeur artistique des Percussions Claviers de Lyon et artisan de ce nouveau spectacle avec la metteuse en scène Emmanuelle Prager, a cherché chez Saint-Saëns, Debussy, Roussel ou Dukas « une musique qui souffle le vent de la liberté, une musique parfois tonitruante, guerrière, parfois éblouissante et ciselée comme les champs de corail décrits dans le roman ». Transcrites pour cinq percussionnistes (marimbas, xylophones et vibraphones), des pages comme La Mer de Debussy ou Bacchus et Ariane de Debussy accompagnent le voyage de l’œil. Dans le même temps, les Percussions Claviers de Lyon, tout à la fois musiciens et personnages, reprennent Trois contes, premier spectacle réalisé (en 2008) avec Emmanuelle Prager autour de trois récits intemporels de Charles Perrault (Le Petit Chaperon rouge, La Belle au Bois dormant et Le Petit Poucet) et des musiques de Ravel, de Ma Mère l’Oye aux Valses nobles et sentimentales.
