Au milieu des années 1970, Hugues Dufourt (né en 1943), qui participe à la révolution sonore du mouvement « spectral » au côté de ses confrères réunis autour de l’ensemble L’Itinéraire, crée Erewhon, vaste symphonie pour percussions (150 instruments joués par six musiciens) écrite pour les Percussions de Strasbourg. Quelque quarante ans plus tard, Hugues Dufourt peut nourrir de son exploration toujours plus profonde des pouvoirs du son une nouvelle œuvre de grande envergure (plus d’une heure d’un « immense adagio à la manière de Bruckner »). Après l’enregistrement de l’œuvre, désigné « enregistrement de l’année » lors des Victoires de la musique 2017, la quatrième génération de musiciens des Percussions de Strasbourg porte avec enthousiasme cette fresque sonore fascinante et enchanteresse.
