La comédie dramatique de Matéi Visniec, mise en scène par Victor Quezada-Perez, est une fable tendre et cruelle sur le métier de saltimbanque et sur le temps qui passe, et la vie aussi. Une offre d’emploi réunit dans le huis clos d’une salle d’attente trois vieux clowns en fin de carrière, usés par les travaux et les jours. Pour les trois hommes pris individuellement, c’est la rivalité et l’angoisse de ne pas être le meilleur bon vieux clown, le meilleur artiste, qui priment. Malgré lui, le saltimbanque cerne son propre désespoir dans le miroir que lui tend l’autre, mais heureusement le rire est l’antidote de la mort. La vie entière est faite d’espoir et de luttes concrètes pour sauvegarder sa condition artistique. D’ailleurs, chaque compère va faire son petit numéro sur les planches, histoire de se mettre en jambes et de narguer une gloire un peu trop méprisante. Un joli et dernier tour de piste pour clowns vieillis, drôles et pathétiques.
