En 1993, Odile Duboc réunissait, dans le Projet de la Matière, toute la richesse et la finesse de son langage, de sa « douce abstraction » inspirée directement des sensations liées au feu, à l’air, à l’eau… Cette pièce phare donnait à voir, avec les sculptures matières de Marie-José Pillet et neuf danseurs (dont le jeune Boris Charmatz, qui est à l’origine de cette reprise), l’expérience intime du mouvement, du poids, de la gravité selon un processus d’expérimentation inédit. Cette recréation donne une nouvelle possibilité à la pièce de se déployer, dans une autre forme d’organicité du mouvement.
Un projet traversé par différentes générations
Cette fois, les danseurs sont des enfants. L’expérience, déjà menée à Rennes et dans d’autres villes, a montré l’incroyable possibilité qu’offrait ce processus chez des enfants : à eux de s’abandonner, de faire confiance à leurs sensations, de s’écouter… Le geste dubocien prend avec eux un nouvel envol. C’est Anne-Karine Lescop, qui faisait partie du projet d’origine, qui conduit la pièce avec ces nouveaux interprètes. Différent selon les villes qu’il traverse, ce Petit Projet de la Matière fait ici appel à des enfants issus du quartier de Monclar, à Avignon. C’est là que s’implantera le futur et nouveau lieu de fabrique du Festival d’Avignon.
