« Formidable agitateur public, provocateur d’improvisation et de vertige, éveilleur de sens, de tous les sens » : c’est ainsi que les metteurs en scène et acteurs Ophélia Teillaud (interprétant Phèdre) et Marc Zammit (interprétant Thésée et Théramène) envisagent l’alexandrin de Racine, époustouflant matériau théâtral. La fille de Minos et de Pasiphaé, épouse du roi d’Athènes Thésée, brûle d’amour pour son beau-fils Hippolyte, fils de Thésée et de la reine des Amazones Antiope. Lourde hérédité… Phèdre souffre et fait souffrir sous le joug fatal de Vénus, la passion absolue et coupable empoisonne tout sur son passage, et d’inavouables aveux scellent la tragédie jusqu’à la mort et la catastrophe. Phèdre, créée dix ans après Andromaque en 1677, marque l’apogée de l’œuvre tragique de Racine, explore les ravages de l’amour dans une langue d’une exceptionnelle et implacable subtilité, d’une étonnante beauté. « Plus loin que le chaos des passions, entre mythologie et christianisme, Phèdre dévoile les interrogations de Racine sur le destin de l’humanité et l’équilibre du monde. » confient les metteurs en scène.
