Déjà classé au rang des plus grands noms du chant baroque, déjà chouchou du public et des médias, Philippe Jaroussky avait surpris tout son monde en 2009 en s’aventurant sur le terrain de la musique française, loin des flamboyances du baroque italien… « A bien réfléchir, il faut bien reconnaître que ce type de voix ne dispose pas d’un répertoire spécifique très vaste » confiait-t-il à l’époque… L’accueil de son album « Opium » d’alors n’aura pas été aussi unanime que ses best-sellers vivaldiens, mais qu’importe, son désir de chanter ce merveilleux répertoire était et reste plus fort. Entouré de Jérôme Ducros au piano et du Quatuor Ebène, notre contre-ténor star replonge aujourd’hui dans l’atmosphère délicate des salons parisiens de la fin du 19e siècle et du début du 20e dans un programme de mélodies de Fauré, Hahn ou Debussy, inspiré par la poésie de Verlaine, en apportant son magnifique raffinement musical et en faisant le choix de « la prononciation la plus proche possible de la voix parlée actuelle, afin que les mots résonnent de la façon la plus naturelle dans l’imaginaire des auditeurs, en essayant d’écarter tout affect ou surinterprétation »…
