Dans le livret magnifiquement illustré qui accompagne le disque de Philippe Mouratoglou, enregistré pour le label Vision fugitive, Gilles Tordjman souligne la proximité de Fernando Sor et Frédéric Chopin : un même goût pour le bel canto, pour l’articulation de la mélodie, que l’on retrouve dans les pages de grande envergure comme le Grand Solo op. 14, où pourrait aussi se distinguer l’ombre de Schubert. Le jeu de Philippe Mouratoglou, et son choix d’un instrument moderne, donnent toute leur puissance harmonique aux œuvres, comme dans ces silences habités, réchauffés de résonances, qui se déploient, par exemple, dans l’Andante largo op. 5. En regard des grandes pages immédiatement séduisantes telles ces Variations sur « O cara armonia » de Mozart op. 9, dont il construit la progression en jouant des variations de lumière que suggèrent les contrepoints de Sor, le guitariste a réuni pour son récital une demi-douzaine d’études. Ce sont autant de pages où les expérimentations du compositeur, décisives dans l’histoire de l’instrument, ouvrent les portes d’une étonnante modernité musicale : jeux de dynamique, de rythme, inventions harmoniques surtout. Dans l’art de Fernando Sor, tel qu’il se révèle sous les doigts de Philippe Mouratoglou, il y a, au-delà de la force du trait, un vrai don pour la couleur. Une réussite.
