L’œuvre de Pierre Boulez paraît si singulière, si puissante, qu’elle correspondrait presque à un électron libre et fugitif de la création musicale. Le pari de la Cité de la musique est d’autant plus excitant, puisqu’il consiste à faire dialoguer des partitions du compositeur français avec des œuvres du passé. D’un passé proche, avec Webern, Messiaen, Stravinsky (28 novembre et 5 décembre, par l’Orchestre de Paris), à propos desquels Pierre Boulez rappelait ici même (La Terrasse n°150) : « Ce sont des compositeurs qui m’ont beaucoup influencé quand j’étais jeune. Ils m’ont servi de modèles, chacun à sa façon… ». Le dialogue peut aussi traverser les siècles ; pour preuve, ce rapprochement entre Le Marteau sans Maître et des madrigaux de Monteverdi (30 novembre), ou le parallèle entre Anthèmes II et le 5ème Concerto brandebourgeois de Bach (8 décembre). Des perspectives d’autant plus intéressantes qu’elles confronteront le jeu de l’Ensemble Intercontemporain à celui de formations sur instruments anciens. Cette mise en relation changera-t-elle le jugement critique de Pierre Boulez à l’égard de la révolution baroque ?
