Pierre-Emmanuel Rousseau, dont on connaît le goût pour les mises en scène rythmées, porte l’action sur une plage en Sicile, dans les années 1980. « Un parquet de danse, des guirlandes lumineuses. Une famille fête un mariage. Banquet, bal. Cette famille est puissante, famille de la mafia. Les hommes reviennent d’une expédition punitive contre une famille rivale ». L’important n’est donc pas de suivre à la lettre ce que dit le livret, mais plutôt de plonger les personnages dans une intrigue plausible, propre à justifier les nombreux moments de fêtes, de danses, de retrouvailles tapageuses que contient l’opéra. Dans la fosse, Sasha Goetzel, le nouveau directeur musical de l’Orchestre national des Pays de la Loire ; sur scène, Marie-Adeline Henry, et Philippe Talbot dans les rôles-titres.
