JAZZ / STUDIO DE L'ERMITAGE
Ping Machine a fait parler de lui avant l’été en sortant simultanément deux albums. L’un plutôt fun, un brin ironiquement titré « Easy Listening », qui agrège trouvailles sonores, effets de répétitivité et plaisirs polyrythmiques dans une écriture véloce pour big band de jazz décalé ; un second, « Ubik », nommé en clin d’œil à Philip K. Dick, dont les aspérités phoniques préfigurent le caractère plus labyrinthique, une suite qui emprunte ses techniques d’écriture aux théories de la musique spectrale et à d’autres principes savants de composition contemporaine. Sous la direction du guitariste Fred Maurin, l’orchestre présente à deux mois d’intervalle ces deux répertoires au Studio de l’Ermitage, servis par des solistes qui comptent parmi la jeune génération du jazz français. Deux aventures en marche.
