Théâtre des Carmes-André Benedetto / de et avec Jihad Darwiche
Elles s’appellent Nadia, Leïla, Asma, Yousra, Marie… Au cri de « Le peuple veut », elles se sont réunies Place Tahrir pour participer aux mouvements populaires ayant abouti à la démission du président égyptien Hosni Moubarak. Ce sont leurs voix, leurs témoignages, leurs histoires dont Jihad Darwiche s’empare dans Place Tahrir – Le jour où l’espoir nous a prises par surprise. « Plusieurs [de ces histoires] sont issues d’un livre d’Imad Tharwat, un auteur égyptien qui a recueilli des dizaines de témoignages de femmes égyptiennes dès janvier 2011, explique le conteur et écrivain libanais. J’ai écrit les autres récits à partir de témoignages lus dans des journaux ou sur Internet. » Accompagné du pianiste Henry Torgue, le récitant brosse le portrait de ces femmes ordinaires prises dans des événements extraordinaires. Il compose une « fresque de la vie au Caire ». Un « hymne à l’espoir et au combat pour la liberté ».
