Pléiades, du compositeur Iannis Xenakis (disparu depuis dix ans), est aujourd’hui une pièce majeure de la musique contemporaine : depuis sa création en 1979, cette œuvre n’a cessé d’être jouée par les plus grands ensembles de percussions. Ce que l’on sait moins, c’est que cette musique avait initialement été créée pour la danse : il s’agissait même d’une commande du Ballet du Rhin… Le chorégraphe Alban Richard lui redonne cette vocation première, en composant un « concert de musique et de danse ». Il travaille pour cela en étroite collaboration avec les Percussions de Strasbourg. Danseurs et musiciens partagent le même espace scénique – ce qui implique un véritable travail de partage et d’interaction, car les instruments des musiciens sont si volumineux qu’ils pourraient à eux seuls occuper tout le plateau. Dès lors, la chorégraphie intègre la musique au sens propre : les instruments sont en mouvement, apparaissent, disparaissent. Un décor sonore et mobile, pour un espace de jeu en constant bouleversement, dans lequel se déploient et se rencontrent les écritures chorégraphique, musicale et lumineuse.
