Une danse cinglante, musclée et toute en finesse, tendue entre duos intimes et irruptions collectives… Découvert en France l’an passé avec deux pièces, Uprising (2006) et In your room (2007), Hofesh Shechter surprenait par l’efficace maîtrise du plateau, le sens du montage « cut », des ruptures et surprises, une gestuelle taillée par la lumière. Né à Jérusalem, diplômé là-bas de l’Académie de danse et de musique, puis passé par la Batsheva Dance Company et formé à la batterie et aux percussions, le chorégraphe s’est finalement posé à Londres et crée ses propres œuvres depuis 2003. Avec Political Mother, il questionne la normalité sans cesse chahutée aujourd’hui par l’effarante actualité quotidienne qui charrie trop souvent l’inconcevable et finit par émousser le sens de la réalité. Avec huit musiciens et dix danseurs balançant entre émotion et énergie pure, il exacerbe la contradiction entre l’individu et la société pour en montrer l’irrésoluble tension.
