Né en 1912, dans le Wyoming, Jackson Pollock est l’un des plus grands peintres américains du XXème siècle. L’œuvre de Lee Krasner, son épouse, est moins connue. C’est « la force de leur amour et la violence de leurs déchirements » que Fabrice Melquiot tente de faire apparaître dans Pollock. « Nous pourrions appeler cette pièce “tragédie contemporaine”, fait remarquer Paul Desveaux, mais, sous la fable, un seul sujet traverse le texte : la question de la création. Comme Sartre et Beauvoir ont pu l’être pour la philosophie et la littérature, Pollock et Krasner sont devenus les sujets de cette question. Ils ne sont déjà plus seulement homme et femme. Ils sont des figures transcendées par les multiples constats et interrogations sur l’acte artistique. » Des figures interprétées par Serge Biavan et Claude Perron, dans un spectacle envisagé comme une confrontation « à la peinture, au geste et à la matière ».
