« Née dans une famille pauvre de Caroline du Nord, Nina Simone aurait pu devenir concertiste classique, mais elle était noire, fait observer l’auteur, metteur en scène et musicien. Elle portera toute sa vie le deuil de ce destin bouché. Il y a en elle une double nature : mélancolique et combative, que l’on retrouve dans sa musique, où perce toujours le blues... »
Portraits croisés
A la façon d’un entretien aux accents de documentaire, ce portrait musical avec David Lescot guitare à la main se compose autant de chansons que de questions/réponses formulées en bonne et due forme. Nourrie depuis son plus jeune âge de blues, de jazz et de soul, Ludmilla Dabo se confond avec son sujet. Elle fait revivre l’âme de la grande Nina Simone, célèbre son sens du swing, sa voix unique et aussi son engagement pour les droits civiques. L’ensemble compose autant un hommage qu’un portrait au présent de la jeune et talentueuse comédienne et chanteuse, portrait qui rappelle hélas que le racisme sévit encore au 21ème siècle. Un excellent spectacle, pêchu, fin et sensible.
