La saison du Théâtre de la Ville a été depuis une vingtaine d’années pionnière dans la révélation en France des plus grands talents et traditions de la musique indienne. Nous faisant voyager du Nord au Sud de ce fascinant continent musical, cette programmation de rentrée invite pour la première fois le chanteur Prem Kumar, représentant la huitième génération d’une dynastie extraordinaire de vocalistes, spécialistes du style Ghanrana, peu connu en Occident, né au XVIIIè siècle à la cour de Darbhanga situé au Nord (le 3 octobre aux Abbesses). Cap au Sud ensuite, avec un instrumentiste d’exception, lui aussi dépositaire de l’héritage d’une longue lignée de musiciens : Ustad Amjad Ali Khan est probablement le plus grand virtuose actuel du sarod, ce luth indien à multiples cordes, ancêtre du rubab afghan (le 26 octobre au Théâtre de la Ville).
